Easy French Toast

Bevy of baguettes

French Toast is a special occasion in our household, this time for an away football game of our favorite team the Cal Bears. To soak in the decadence but not the calories I like to use a baguette or ciabatta, that way you’re getting 5-6 slices but they are smaller than a sourdough slice or challah.

It’s all in the spice

A good French Toast is spicy! I like to use cinnamon, nutmeg and almond extract. I use 5 eggs for our 2 person household and use about 3 tablespoons of almond extract. I don’t have exact measurements for the spices, just use your gut. I would say use more nutmeg than you think you should. Double whatever measurement you go with for the nutmeg. Trust me!

When dressing your French Toast, go with whatever is in season. Living in California that makes things really nice, fresh berries, bananas and walnuts are a go to. If apples are your freshest produce, go with that! Spiralize them and make them look special. Always dress it up.

I hope you enjoy making one of my favorite dishes!
